A New ‘Stolen Device Protection’ Feature for Apple iPhones Boosts Security: An explanation

Share

“Stolen Device Protection” for iPhones was introduced by Apple earlier this week with the iOS 17.3 update. When your iPhone is out of your home or place of business, this adds an extra degree of security to the biometric protection it currently has. A burglar or “someone who has stolen your device and knows your passcode from making critical changes to your account or device,” according to Apple, will be less likely to succeed with these criteria.

For someone who often misplaces their phone or is in danger of losing it, this function may be extremely helpful. This may be done using your Touch ID or Face ID system; if you choose not to authenticate with one of these, there is no backup passcode option available, further safeguarding your device.

Additionally, you will need to wait an hour to complete certain tasks, including resetting your Apple ID password, before you can use Face ID or Touch ID again.

You must download iOS 17.3 in order to activate this function, since it can only be accessed after installation. All iPhone models that support iOS 17, which includes the iPhone XS and upwards, are compatible with iOS 17.3.

The “Stolen Device Feature” Can Be Enabled Here: Take These Actions:

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

2. If your smartphone has a Touch ID biometric, look for Touch and Passcode, or if it has a TrueDepth camera system, look for Face ID and Passcode.

3. Locate and activate “Stolen Device Protection” now.

4. That is all there is to it! You should now be able to use the functionality.

You will have to authenticate using your iPhone’s biometrics once again in order to disable the function.
