Given the growing frequency and complexity of cyber events, experts on Sunday said that Indian organizations must avoid complacency as fraudsters are always changing and learning from the cybersecurity environment.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies provide both benefits and difficulties. Cybercriminals are continuously changing and learning from the cybersecurity environment, according to cybersecurity experts, and they attempt to take use of these new technologies in order to escape being discovered or apprehended.

Cybersecurity and AI are like two-edged swords. Although it has protective qualities, bad actors may also take advantage of it. According to Dr. Sanjay Katkar, Joint Managing Director of Quick Heal Technologies, “ransomware attacks demonstrate that encryption can be used against us by attackers, which basically means that our tools are being turned into weapons,” IANS was informed.

Hackers cannot employ these detecting methods, however; they are only available to cybersecurity experts. They assist in finding abnormalities and defending vital digital infrastructure,” he said.

Researchers at Seqrite Labs, a malware analysis company, examined 400 million malware detections from more than 8.5 million Indian endpoint installs in 2023.

According to a new analysis from Barracuda Network, a supplier of cloud-enabled security solutions, reacting to breaches may cost up to $5 million annually on average.

The study also expressed concern about hackers experimenting with using generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technologies to launch more frequent, sophisticated, and potent assaults.

The experts recommended adopting AI-based defenses that are adapted to meet changing threat patterns in order to defeat AI-driven assaults.

Potential harm might be reduced by putting ethical frameworks in place to control AI research and cyber use cases. As these assaults continue to develop, regular software upgrades, access isolation, and continual user training against new social engineering tactics are essential, according to Raj Sivaraju, President, APAC, Arete, who spoke with IANS.

“Defense strategy maturation throughout 2024 will depend on priorities like increased training, security partnerships, automation, and resilience principles like zero trust,” he said.

The experts said that cyber defenders may successfully meet enemy challenges for a more secure digital future by acting quickly, working together, and making wise technological investments.
