With Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles, director Imtiaz Ali has illuminated the film’s distinct musical style. In contrast to the custom of playing backward vocals in a studio, the performers in the movie, which is scheduled for distribution on Netflix on April 12, sing live and in-person. He has also disclosed the true rationale for the casting of the actors.

Imtiaz Ali stressed the value of selecting performers for the movie who are also vocalists in an interview with News18. “It was mandatory for me to cast actors who are singers as well,” he said, praising Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra for their live singing performances. It was crucial that they perform live. Without them, this movie would not have been possible.”

Imtiaz Ali emphasized the genuineness and enchantment of performing live, pointing out that the actors’ live renditions were better than their studio recordings. “The songs sung by them in the film have happened live on location like dialogue-speaking,” he said, expressing his satisfaction at capturing the spirit of live music in a movie. There were absolutely no extras.”

AR Rahman and the late Punjabi folk musician Amar Singh Chamkila both contributed tunes to the Chamkila CD. Their fourth effort together, after Tamasha, Highway, and Rockstar, is this collaboration.

Imtiaz Ali also disclosed Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra’s intense pre-filming practises, which included jam sessions with AR Rahman. He said, “They would practice for hours before every shot that required them to sing,” praising their commitment to honing their vocal abilities. Rahman sir and them had several jam sessions.”

The movie aims to provide a distinctive musical experience by fusing the legendary tunes of AR Rahman and Amar Singh Chamkila with the skills of its main performers. The film’s soundtrack gains authenticity via Imtiaz Ali’s inventive live singing technique, which distinguishes it from traditional Bollywood soundtracks.
